The Point England way

Did you know that the Point England way started in 2000 or 2001, Otalani Meleisa was a former teacher in Point England who found some ideas for the Point England. Before it used to be Belonging to Point England but right now Mr Burt and the teachers changed it to The Point England Way.

What does the Point England way mean to you? Well to me it means to enjoy one another's company, to be happy with one another, and to feel safe here at school. Have you ever heard the three P’s, the three P’s are Partnership, Protection and Participation and they come from the Treaty of Waitangi. The 3P's are what the Point England Way is all about as well.

Every Friday we have an assembly. The first thing we do is we sing the national anthem which is a tradition to our school. We also have a few koreros. Every term Mr Burt always makes up a korero for the rest of the term. A korero is a saying or a phrase that demonstrates how to behave at Point England School. For example so far this year our korero have been 'Put Yourself In Their Shoes' and 'Play in the Right Place'

The Treaty of Waitangi

The Treaty of Waitangi is to bring peace between the Maori people and Queen Victoria. The Maori people started war with the British, because the British people wanted land but Maori chiefs did not agree to anything. It’s good that they signed the treaty because it was all chaos back then.

The problems then were the British that wanted land, musket wars between the Maori tribes. There were no laws in New Zealand back in 1840. There were many fights between Maori tribes and other people.

The treaty of waitangi was signed on the 6th of Feb 1840. The treaty was signed right here in New Zealand. The treaty was meant to bring peace but not much happened after then.

But at the end when the treaty was signed everything went back to how they all wanted it. So obviously both the Maori chiefs and the British and also the never forgotten the queen Victoria.

Prize giving

“1, 2, 3” on Thursday the team 4 and 5 which are the years 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 had prize giving. First of all we had to sing the national anthem, second of all Mr Burt gave out some certificate for trying hard and the second certificate was for 100% attendance. The third thing was the year 4 and 5 performance.

There song that they performed were cool and one of there song is my favourite and it’s called I’ve got the magic. There dance was very very cool but I didn’t like the parts when they got on and of parts because it took too long but it was good.

when they finished they go off stage and Mr Burt said some great things about the dance. Next he called out some more certificates for the same things but for the year 6. at the end of prize giving we had to sing our school song and say the preer and go home. I had a good time at prize giving

Future Aspiration

Sitting down in class thinking to myself “UHMM” wonder what I’m going to be in the future. Am I going to be a Dancer a Singer wait a Architect. I would like to be an Architect because I'm a pretty good artist. My favourite subject is art.

Did you know that last week on Thursday all the years 7s & 8s had a talk to other people about their job or what they do in life.There were 5 speakers. My favourite speaker is a very very smart and intelligent person, he is the age of 12. I felt shocked when he told all of us that he’s going to University next year
